Choosing Breast Augmentation from Dr. Fisher
During your first appointment, Dr. Fisher will talk with you in detail about what you hope to accomplish. He will then perform a breast examination that takes into consideration the condition of your breasts, your skin elasticity, and your expectations. Dr. Fisher can then recommend the procedure that is best suited to you. If you would like him to correct sagging in addition to increasing your breast size, he may recommend a breast lift with implants instead of breast augmentation alone. Many women who have had children also combine breast augmentation with a tummy tuck and liposuction to address multiple concerns with a single surgery and recovery period. Dr. Fisher can determine whether you are a candidate for combined procedures during your consultation.
Breast Augmentation Options
During your initial consultation, Dr. Fisher will review all of the available options that enable him to personalize your breast augmentation. These options include:
- Breast implants are available with saline and silicone filling and in a variety of sizes, shapes and textures. Dr. Fisher offers only FDA-approved breast implants in his Nashville practice to provide his patients with the highest possible safety.
- Breast implant placement can be under the chest muscle (submuscular placement) or under the breast tissue but above the chest muscle (subglandular placement). Typically subglandular placement of breast implants provides the most natural looking results, especially when the patient has very little of her own breast tissue.
- Incision placement is commonly along the breast crease (inframammary) or around the areola (periareolar). The resulting scars typically fade and become unnoticeable.
While some choices are better suited to specific body types, most are up to personal preference. Dr. Fisher will suggest the best combination for your anatomy and your aesthetic goals to help you establish realistic expectations for your results.
Your Surgery & Recovery
Prior to your surgery, Dr. Fisher will give you preoperative and postoperative instructions to follow. To be prepared for your breast augmentation surgery and make the recovery process easier, we suggest you follow these instructions closely. The breast augmentation surgery including recovery will take approximately one hour. You will be given a general anesthetic, which means you will be asleep during the procedure.
Most patients go home the day of their breast augmentation surgery. It's common to feel some moderate discomfort for the first 2 to 3 days. One week after your breast augmentation surgery, your sutures will be removed. You will probably be able to resume exercise in 2 to 3 weeks, but will need to avoid any heavy lifting for the first 2 weeks.
Breast augmentation is an especially rewarding procedure as your breasts will be fuller right after surgery. Your breast shape will become softer and more natural looking over the first few weeks as any swelling dissipates and the breast implants settle into place.
